When Is A Medical Spa The Place To Go?

Posted on

If you want to improve your aesthetics, you have your choice of places to go. In some cases, you may want to visit a salon and spa. In other cases, you may benefit from seeing a cosmetic dermatologist. And then, there's the middle ground: visiting a medical spa. A med spa typically offers a variety of minimally invasive and non-invasive treatments meant to improve your appearance. So, when should a med-spa be your go-to choice for cosmetic enhancement?

When you have a minor health-based problem.

For really serious health issues that affect your appearance, you are generally best off going to the dermatologist. For example, you should see a dermatologist if you have psoriasis or allergic eczema. But for more minor health-based problems, such as mild acne or dry skin, you can certainly head to the medical spa. The practitioners at these facilities are usually nurses and nurse practitioners, and they have enough knowledge to recommend procedures and treatments that can ease your mild ailments and related symptoms.

When you've tried traditional spa treatments, but they don't work.

Perhaps you've had a facial, a mask, or a steam treatment at a traditional spa, but you did not quite get the level of benefits you were expecting. Visiting a med spa is a good next step to take. Med spas offer more intensive treatments than traditional spas. For example, instead of a hydrating facial for dry skin, a med spa may recommend microdermabrasion or a laser treatment, both of which are a little more invasive, but also more effective. Med spas offer minimally invasive treatments for acne, wrinkles, cellulite, and other common cosmetic complaints too.

You're on the verge of considering plastic surgery.

Are you considering a surgical procedure such as a breast lift, face lift, or liposuction? It's worth visiting a med spa first to see if there's a less invasive treatment they can perform in order to give you the effects you desire. For instance, rather than a face lift, a med spa may recommend laser skin tightening. Instead of liposuction, they may recommend a cryogenic cooling procedure. You may still decide that you need surgery to get the effects you want, but it's at least worth trying the less-invasive approach first.

Med spas are great places to seek minimally invasive, cosmetic care. If you fall into any of the categories above, make an appointment at your local medical spa.
